バルセロナに到着！
楓がスペイン・バルセロナで開催されるサマーキャンプに招待され、私も同伴者として来ています。
昨日、無事にバルセロナへ到着しました。
空港には、今回のサマーキャンプを主催するジョナサン・ディネオ師範が迎えに来てくださり、そのまま道場へ直行。
道場では、すでに熱気あふれる稽古が行われていました。
17歳のヨーロッパチャンピオンとの出会い
その中で、一人、ひときわ目を引く強い選手がいました。
私がジョナサン師範に「あの選手、すごく強いですね」と聞くと、
「彼はスウェーデンから来ていて、今年から内弟子になったヨーロッパチャンピオンだよ」
とのこと。
「そりゃ強いわ！」と納得（笑）。
さらに後から聞いて驚いたのが、まだ17歳だということ。
若くしてヨーロッパの頂点に立ち、世界で挑戦を続けている姿は、とても刺激になりました。
ただ、彼は翌日にスウェーデンへ帰国するため、残念ながらサマーキャンプには参加できないとのこと。
その場でお願いした飛び入りスパーリング
それを聞いた楓が、
「それなら、今スパーリングをお願いします！」
と、その場でお願いし、飛び入りでスパーリングをさせていただきました。
世界トップレベルの選手と拳を交える機会は、そう多くありません。
このような経験は、試合だけでは得られない貴重な財産になるはずです。
サマーキャンプはいよいよ明後日から。
世界中の空手家と交流し、多くのことを学び、日本へ持ち帰りたいと思います。

Arriving in Barcelona
Kaede was invited to take part in a summer camp in Barcelona, Spain, and I have travelled with him as his accompanying instructor.
We arrived safely in Barcelona yesterday.
Shihan Jonathan Tineo, the organiser of the summer camp, kindly met us at the airport and took us directly to his dojo.
By the time we arrived, the dojo was already filled with the energy of an intense training session.
Meeting a 17-Year-Old European Champion
Among the karateka training there, one exceptionally strong young fighter immediately caught my attention.
I said to Shihan Jonathan, “That fighter is extremely strong.”
He replied, “He is from Sweden. He became an uchi-deshi here this year, and he is a European champion.”
That certainly explained it!
What surprised me even more was learning that he was only 17 years old.
To have already reached the top level in Europe at such a young age, while continuing to challenge himself internationally, was truly inspiring.
Unfortunately, he was due to return to Sweden the following day and would not be able to take part in the summer camp.
An Impromptu Sparring Session
When Kaede heard this, he immediately asked, “In that case, could we spar now?”
The young champion agreed, giving Kaede the opportunity to take part in an impromptu sparring session with him.
Opportunities to test yourself against a fighter of this level do not come along often.
Experiences like this offer lessons that cannot always be gained through competition alone, and I am sure this session will become a valuable part of Kaede’s development.
The summer camp will begin the day after tomorrow.
We look forward to training with karate practitioners from around the world, learning as much as possible, and bringing those experiences back to Japan.
