Spain Summer Camp Day 2 | Kaede Hiraki Leads the Session
It was the second day of the Spain Summer Camp.
Kaede was given the opportunity to lead the first training session of the day.
How to Land Kaede’s Signature Uchi-Mawashi Geri
The theme of the session was one of Kaede’s signature techniques: the inside roundhouse kick, or uchi-mawashi geri.
Rather than simply teaching how to perform the kick, the main focus was:
“How can you actually land the uchi-mawashi geri in a real fight?”
No matter how good a technique may be, the opponent will naturally be watching out for it.
What matters is how you build the attack and create the opportunity to land the technique.
Kaede explained how to use punches and other kicks to divide the opponent’s attention before connecting to the uchi-mawashi geri.
He broke down the selection and structure of the techniques step by step, then demonstrated how to continue from the uchi-mawashi geri into the next attack.
All of the participants trained with great enthusiasm. They listened carefully to Kaede’s explanations and repeated the movements many times.
Although they came from different countries, spoke different languages and had different cultural backgrounds, it was wonderful to see them working so hard to learn Kaede’s techniques.
This is also an important part of the way we teach in Japan.
Forty Rounds of Sparring to Finish the Session
The session ended with what is now becoming a regular feature of the camp: 40 rounds of sparring.
Kaede also had the opportunity to take part in an intense sparring session with Shihan Jonathan Tineo.
He is not only teaching overseas. He is also exchanging techniques, testing himself and continuing to learn.
It has been a truly valuable experience for Kaede.
We are grateful for this wonderful environment and opportunity, and we will continue learning throughout the remaining days of the summer camp.
